Police
History
The first mention of a constable appears in 1871; the location of his office is not clear, but may have been somewhere near the hotel. A police station is mentioned in 1896/7 without position.
In 1898 James King the local policeman was shot while chasing a poacher in Tulloch. Calthorpe seems to have been lived in by the policeman and King’s widow appears there in the 1901 census, but it is not until about 1930 that it can be certainly found on the present site – then near the Drill Hall.
